A Story and a Banjo

Hey guys! I have been soooo busy with 'Shadows' that I almost forgot to post this. XD Heh heh, anyways, I've got an exciting announcement for the end so make sure to read the whole thing. ;)

Molly's POV:

It was a normal summer day, well, I mean as normal as it usually gets around our house.

I was siting in my tree fort, reading out loud,

"Then the evil sorceress tackled the princess."

And my sisters were acting it out.

Ruthie, the princess, screamed as Amy tried to gently tackle her.

"'Stop foul knave!' the knight cried, brandishing his sword." I read.

"Stop foul cave!" Kit cried.

I laughed, "No, Kit, knave, not cave."

"C-nave C-n-c- what Molly said." Kit sighed, and everyone began to laugh.

"But the knight was too late. The sorceress and the princess disappeared in a puff of smoke. The knight, however, wouldn't give up that easily! He decided he would find the princess." I paused.

"Um, guys. A new character is going to be introduced." I said.

"Another character?" Ruthie sighed, "But we don't have any more people."

"Hey, I could play two people!" Amy suggested.

I shook my head, "No, you'd have to fight yourself... which might be awkward."

"I could do both." Kit volunteered.

I knew that wouldn't work either. I shook my head again, "No, we'll just have to get someone else."

Amy groaned, "But none of the others will play."

"Ugh, this is dumb. I'll just find another person, and I'll make them come." Ruthie said, plainly.

All of us rolled our eyes. Ruthie thinks she can get anyone to do anything.

Ruthie glanced out at the road and jumped in surprise and excitement.

"Hey! Hey you!" Ruthie called as she waved her arms, "Come here!"

The girl, who happened to be walking past just then, looked surprised, but climbed the ladder into the tree fort anyway.

"Um, hey. What's up?" the girl asked.

"Come here." Ruthie said, grabbing her hand, "We need some help."

"Oh, OK. Sure. What can I do?" she asked as she allowed herself to be pulled into the tree fort.

"Imagine, if you will." Ruthie said, dramatically, "A kingdom with no King."

"A left shoe with no right shoe. Peanut butter with no jam. A nerd without braces. Early mornings without coffee. A gopher with no mustard!"

Ruthie finally gestured to my book, "A story with no hero!" she finished.

"Um... I think you kind of lost me with the metaphors."

"We're playing a game where Molly reads, and we act out what she reads. We're short one person, and we were wondering if you'll play." Amy clarified.

"Oh, "the girl's face brightened, "OK, I'll play!"

"OK, then you can be the traveling bard." I frowned, "He plays a song, but we can just skip that." I shivered. If there's one thing I hate, it's being inaccurate to the book.

"No, wait. I can do the song if you tell me what key it's in." she said as she took a banjo off her back.

"Wow! You can really play! This is going to be great!" Ruthie cried.

"Alright then. Let's play!" Amy said as she jumped up, and kidnapped the princess again.

"And so," I finally read, "as the shocked princess covered her eyes,"

"And the cowardly knight whimpered from where he had fallen."

"The sorceress met her end at the bard's hand." I closed the book.

"So, that's it. What did you guys think?" I asked.

"I thought it was great!" the blonde girl exclaimed.

"What I thought was great was your music!" Ruthie gushed.

She blushed, "Well thank you! I've always loved music, ever since I was little."

"Wait. None of our sisters can play the banjo." Amy said slowly.

"Wait a minute! I never seen you before!" Kit cried in surprise.

The girl laughed, "You didn't notice that before? No, I just moved here, so I haven't met many people yet."

All of us looked at each other, all thinking the same thing.

Then Ruthie voiced all our thoughts, "Does that mean that you're our new sister?"

"Um, I don't think so. I only have one sister, adopted sister." She replied.

"Well, what's your name and where are you living?" Amy asked, "Then we can figure out if you're our new sister!"

"Alright. Well, my name is Heather Grant, and I live at Lilac Hedge Farm." Heather said.

I thought for a moment. "Lilac Hedge is that sweet little farm down the road, isn't it?" I asked.

"Yes." Heather replied, "I just came from there. I was going to introduce myself to the girls who live at Oxbow Farm."

"But that's us!" Kit exclaimed, "That means that you're our neighbor! So- "

Suddenly we were all startled by a frustrated cry.

"Oh dear. Not again." Heather sighed.

"Um, it was nice to meet you all, but I have to go now." and with that, Heather was down the ladder and out of sight down the road in a matter of seconds.

"Well, it should be interesting to have a neighbor." Kit shrugged.

"Oh no!" Ruthie gasped.

"What? You don't like neighbors?" I teased.

"No, look!"

Heather's banjo had been left behind.

"We have to get it back to her." I said, and everyone agreed.

We weren't sure which way she went so Kit and Ruthie went one way and Amy and I went the other.

Soon, we saw Heather and another girl walking ahead of us.

"Don't worry, June." Heather said, "We can get an other one."

'I know," the other girl sighed, "but that's the third kite in a row."

Heather giggled, "It's OK. Let's go home and- oh whoa whoa, where is my banjo?!"

"Um, I haven't seen it since this morning."

"Oh, no no no. I must have left it somewhere." Heather groaned.

"Hey! Wait, Heather!" I called.

Both Heather and the other girl turned, and Heather smiled.

"Here," Amy handed the banjo to Heather, "We thought you might want it back."

"Thank you so much!" Heather said.

"Also, I'd like you to meet my sister, June Clark." Heather gestured to the other girl.

June blush deep red as she smiled. "It's nice to meet you. Heather we'd better get home now."

Amy and I said goodbye. I smiled to myself as we walked home.

Today had been a good day.

A story had led to a banjo, and a banjo had led to two new friends.
